María and Andrés Avilés

Their story

Andrés and María have an extended family in the Mushullakta community located very close to the Sumaco-Napo-Galeras ecological reserve, in the province of Napo.

They are restoring 6 hectares of land: they are planting native trees and rehabilitating wetlands that have been lost due to deforestation and naranjilla and guayusa monoculture crops.

They are indigenous Kichwas, guardians of the nearby reserve. This project would add to the 64,000 hectares of jungle that are being protected by the Ecuadorean Government in this reserve.
